Weddings

Thank you for considering Westminster for your wedding! Weddings are usually performed by a Westminster pastor on Saturdays: late morning, early or mid-afternoon, or early evening. On the third Saturday of each month, a 1:00 p.m. (or earlier) wedding is available only. No weddings are held on Sundays, New Year’s Day, Palm Sunday through Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving weekend, and in December. All couples married at Westminster are provided with a wedding coordinator, who will assist you before and during your wedding. Westminster is a welcoming congregation and will perform same-sex weddings.

Wedding Fees*

Westminster offers two wedding packages, both of which include the fee for the sanctuary, pastor, organist, wedding coordinator, sanctuary sound technician, and custodian.

  • Wedding Package 1
    (1-300 guests) $1000
  • Wedding Package 2
    (300 + guests) $1250

*Fees may be reduced for members who have been active for at least one year at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Persons to be married at Westminster must use the services of the church’s organist. If you do not plan to have organ music in your ceremony, our organist will help with whatever musical contacts, suggestions, and preparation will be needed. Unless there is an unusual amount of musical preparation that must take place, please contact the organist about two months prior to your wedding. Westminster does not allow the use of recorded music.

Funerals and Memorial Services

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 8:38-39

Our church family seeks to offer compassionate support to those who experience the death of a loved one. When a family member has died or death is imminent we seek to provide pastoral care and spiritual support as soon a possible. Please notify the church at 503-287-1289. When the church office is closed a minister is always on call. Voicemail messages are checked regularly by the minster on call, who will return your call as soon as possible.

Arranging a Worship Service

The funeral or memorial service is first and foremost an occasion for the worship of God. Its purpose is twofold: to bear witness to God’s promises of resurrection life, and to remember the life of the one who has died a part of the eternal story of God’s creative love. Recognizing our common humanity, the service seeks to offer solace, support, and hope to all who attend. Please notify us of your desire to hold a funeral or memorial service as soon as possible. You may choose a minister to conduct the service. The minister you select will meet with you to offer comfort and discuss options for the service. At this meeting, you will discuss the order of worship, including the selection of hymns, music, and scripture. Sharing memories and clarifying the desired character of the service will also be part of this conversation.

Times and Dates

A funeral or memorial service must be scheduled on the church calendar before public notice is given. Contact Jonathan Dyer in the church office, 503-287-1289, or office@westprespdx.org.

Community (non-member) services

As part of Westminster’s ministry to the community, we are open to providing a sacred worship space for local families in times of grief. Contact the church for more information.
