Beth Neel was called to Westminster in 2011 to serve as co-pastor with her husband Gregg.  Ordained to ministry in 1993, Beth knows her way around a committee meeting, potluck, and energetic Bible study.  When not at church, she enjoys reading books that might not have anything to do with faith, walking in rain or sun, trying to comb the dog, and having opportunities for hilarity with family.  She also blogs at www.holdfasttowhatisgood.com.

Gregg came to Westminster in July of 2011 to serve as co-pastor with his wife Beth.  Gregg came to ministry after a career as a special education teacher, first working in youth ministry and then in executive work in the Presbyterian Church. His favorite part of church work is potluck suppers. Gregg spends his free time watching bad t.v., volunteering at the local elementary school, and planning his next vacation with family.

Laurie Lynn Newman was called to Westminster in 2003 as the Associate Pastor for Congregational Care. Her calm demeanor and deep kindness serve her well in her work areas of pastoral care, Stephen Ministry, small groups, and deacons.  Laurie spends her time away from church with her family, in the swimming pool, outdoors in the beauty of God’s creation in the Pacific Northwest, and singing Bach, folk music, and whatever songs come into her heart.

Melissa came to Westminster in 2001 to join the staff as Director of Children’s Ministry.  Her enthusiasm for children, her deep well of patience, and her generous sense of humor allow her to serve Westminster’s children and their families well with opportunities for worship, nurture, service, and fun.  A native of Oregon, Melissa spends her free time enjoying theater and music, her family, reading, and participating in Bible study.

Kathryn Moran

Kathryn was hired as the three-year Community Engagement Coordinator job on January 1, 2016. She has a master’s degree in Inter-Cultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. She also has experience in conflict resolution, group facilitation, diversity and cultural competency, volunteer coordination, and more. The position fits her passion and skills and she is excited that Westminster is exploring new ways of engaging with our local and global community. Kathryn will not have an office, but is reachable by voice mail  and e-mail. Kathryn and her husband, Gary, and their two daughters, Eliana and Katrina, are members at Westminster.

Rev. Chris Murphy

The Rev. Christopher Murphy joined Westminster as its Interim Director of Youth Ministries in September 2015, and on July 1, 2016, he began serving as the Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults. He enjoys spending time with Westminster youth through weekly Youth Nights, the mission trip, lock-ins, and other fun activities. Chris, who is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Direction, has extensive ministry experience working with youth and college students. Chris is blessed to be married to Karen, with whom he is a proud parent to daughters Cate and Chiara. Chris' interests include hiking, cheering for the Seahawks and Timbers, playing guitar, and wine tasting.

Music Staff

Debbie Glaze

Debbie Glaze has worked at Westminster since 2010 as the Director of Music Ministries.  She brings an alto’s sensibilities to her work as she chooses music, plans worship, rehearses with the choir and provides them spiritual guidance, and leads the music in Sunday morning worship.  When not at church, Debbie is at Portland State University where she is Associate Professor in the school of music.  She and her husband, Dave, enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, and spending time with their adult children.

Michael Barnes

Michael Barnes is a professional pianist and adjunct music professor at Marylhurst University, and has worked at Westminster since 1992.  He toured with the Westminster Chancel Choir in Scotland and Cuba, and has coordinated the Sack Lunch Recital Series at The Old Church since 1988.  Among the choirs he accompanies are the Portland Gay Men's Chorus (for 15 years), the Bravo Vancouver Chorale, the Oregon Repertory Singers, and nearly all of the university choruses in the Portland area. Michael also enjoys that sometimes he gets to wear a kilt for his job. 

Anne Stevenson

Anne Stevenson came to Westminster in 1996 and began ringing with Westminster’s Concert Bell Choir and singing in the Chancel Choir.  In 2002, she accepted the position of bell choir director on a “one-year interim basis” and has been happily directing ever since.  Anne retired from the Oregon Symphony where she was Operations Manager, producing the symphony's classical and classical-style concerts.  She is grateful for a life joyously filled with family, friends, music, travel and books.

Leslie Lehmann

Leslie stepped in as Interim Organist in 1991, headed the committee to hire a new, permanent organist (Michael Barnes), and has served as Assistant Organist since then.  Her career encompassed stints as a university professor and as a public affairs executive in both public and private sectors.  However, music is her lifelong passion, including previous church organist positions, chamber music performances and organ recitals in the U.S. and Europe.

Jonathan came to Westminster in the fall of 2016 and sees to the smooth functioning of Westminster’s internal operations, from managing the calendar and building coordination, to producing all of the church publications. Jonathan has his Masters in Public Administration from Portland State and enjoys working at a church for the community and fellowship it brings. When not at work, Jonathan enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest with his wife Liza, playing board games, reading comic books, and spending time with his two cats, Moon Pie and Sebastian.

Darrel King

Darrel King has worked at Westminster since 2012 as the Financial Secretary. He is responsible for organizing the Church’s finances including budget, pledges, and general accounting.  Darrel has formal training in chemical engineering, but worked in accounting for over 20 years before retiring in 2011 after 17 years at Self Enhancement, Inc. (SEI). He is the token Lutheran on staff, and his humor, kindness, and excellence at work are deeply appreciated by the staff and congregation.

Alaina Smith joined the staff of Westminster in 2014 as the Program Staff Assistant. She provides administrative support for all the ministries at Westminster and staffs the front desk. Alaina loves to write and is the published author of multiple short stories and essays. She also enjoys spending time in nature, exploring Portland's restaurants, photography, and watching movies with her husband, Frank.
