Beth Neel was called to Westminster in 2011 to serve as co-pastor with her husband Gregg. Ordained to ministry in 1993, Beth knows her way around a committee meeting, potluck, and energetic Bible study. When not at church, she enjoys reading books that might not have anything to do with faith, walking in rain or sun, trying to comb the dog, and having opportunities for hilarity with family. Gregg came to Westminster in July of 2011 to serve as co-pastor with his wife Beth. Gregg came to ministry after a career as a special education teacher, first working in youth ministry and then in executive work in the Presbyterian Church. His favorite part of church work is potluck suppers. Gregg spends his free time watching bad t.v., volunteering at the local elementary school, and planning his next vacation with family.

Associate Pastor for Congregational Care

Laurie Lynn Newman was called to Westminster in 2003 as the Associate Pastor for Congregational Care. Her calm demeanor and deep kindness serve her well in her work areas of pastoral care, Stephen Ministry, small groups, and deacons. Laurie spends her time away from church with her family, in the swimming pool, outdoors in the beauty of God’s creation in the Pacific Northwest, and singing Bach, folk music, and whatever songs come into her heart.

Melissa came to Westminster in 2001 to join the staff as Director of Children’s Ministry. Her enthusiasm for children, her deep well of patience, and her generous sense of humor allow her to serve Westminster’s children and their families well with opportunities for worship, nurture, service, and fun. A native of Oregon, Melissa spends her free time enjoying theater and music, her family, reading, and participating in Bible study.
Interim Director for Youth Ministries

Along with an incredible team of volunteers, Jeremiah Wilgus is leading the Westminster Youth Ministries into a new era. Jeremiah became a member of Westminster in 2008 and has volunteered with the Westminster youth since 2014. Being the son of a pastor and a former high-school basketball coach, Jeremiah brings a wide range of experience to youth ministry. In his time away from Westminster Jeremiah is a commercial real-estate broker and enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Katie, and two children, Julia and Sam.
Director of Music Ministries

Debbie Glaze has worked at Westminster since 2010 as the Director of Music Ministries. She brings an alto’s sensibilities to her work as she chooses music, plans worship, rehearses with the choir and provides them spiritual guidance, and leads the music in Sunday morning worship. When not at church, Debbie is at Portland State University where she is Associate Professor in the school of music. She and her husband, Dave, enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, and spending time with their adult children.

Michael Barnes is a professional pianist and organist, and has been Senior Organist at Westminster since 1992. With our Chancel Choir, he has toured Scotland and Cuba. He has scheduled the Wednesday Noon Concert Series at The Old Church Concert Hall since 1988. With the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus—which rehearses at Westminster—he toured China for goodwill concerts in 2019. He accompanies the Pacific Youth Choir, and is also Organist at Temple Beth Israel in NW Portland. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists, Organ Historical Society and Guild of Temple Musicians.
Director, Westminster Concert Bells

Anne Stevenson came to Westminster in 1996 and began ringing with Westminster’s Concert Bell Choir and singing in the Chancel Choir. In 2002, she accepted the position of bell choir director on a “one-year interim basis” and has been happily directing ever since. Anne retired from the Oregon Symphony where she was Operations Manager, producing the symphony's classical and classical-style concerts. She is grateful for a life joyously filled with family, friends, music, travel and books.
Assistant Director of Music for Children & Youth

Haley was born and raised in Portland, Oregon where she grew up attending church with her family. For most of her childhood Haley dreamed of becoming a Christian pop star, but instead she graduated from Portland State University with her degree in music, studying opera. She then decided to become a teacher. For fun Haley enjoys spending her time with her husband and dreams of adopting many old dogs.

Leslie stepped in as Interim Organist in 1991, headed the committee to hire a new, permanent organist (Michael Barnes), and has served as Assistant Organist since then. Her career encompassed stints as a university professor and as a public affairs executive in both public and private sectors. However, music is her lifelong passion, including previous church organist positions, chamber music performances and organ recitals in the U.S. and Europe.

Jonathan came to Westminster in the fall of 2016 and sees to the smooth functioning of Westminster’s internal operations, from managing the calendar and building coordination, to producing all of the church publications. Jonathan has his Masters in Public Administration from Portland State and enjoys working at a church for the community and fellowship it brings. When not at work, Jonathan enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest with his wife and son, playing board games, reading comic books, and spending time with his two cats, Moon Pie and Sebastian.
Program Staff Assistant

Alaina Smith joined the staff of Westminster in 2014 as the Program Staff Assistant. She provides administrative support for all the ministries at Westminster and staffs the front desk. Alaina loves to write and is the published author of multiple short stories and essays. She also enjoys spending time in nature, exploring Portland's restaurants, photography, and watching movies with her husband, Frank.

Sandra joined Westminster’s staff in June 2019 and keeps our finances in order. She’s also the bookkeeper and a meditation teacher at New Renaissance Bookshop. In her free time, she enjoys playing music at Providence ElderPlace and going out for adventures with her wife, Jennifer, and their miniature poodle, Felicity Porter.
