Children’s Ministry Activities

To get on the e-mail list to receive updates and opportunities about all children’s activities, please e-mail Eliz Roser at eroser@westprespdx.org with your request or call the church office at 503-287-1289. (For young people sixth grade and older, check out our programming for youth.)

Hello, Eliz!

As of January 2023, Eliz Roser began her work as Westminster’s new Interim Director of Children’s Ministries. In addition to being a current elder, Eliz brings to the job a wealth of experience as an educator and a program manager. She will be working during the mornings on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, at about 15 hours per week, though she’ll work fewer hours in the summertime. Eliz will serve in this position at least through the end of June 2024. She can be reached at eroser@westprespdx.org

Seeking Children’s Ministry Volunteers

Do you enjoy reading stories with children? Are you comfortable with glitter glue? Can you be silly sometimes? If so, volunteering with Children’s Ministry might be for you! The Children’s Ministry team is seeking volunteers to teach Sunday School, help with occasional childcare needs, and serve on the Children’s Ministry Committee. Time commitments range from a few hours once a month to occasional help with events. If you are interested or want to talk more about this, please contact Eliz Roser, Interim Director of Children’s Ministries, at eroser@westprespdx.org.

Angel Choir

Westminster’s Angel Choir (the children’s choir for kids ages five and older) sang Christmas music in worship on Sunday, December 3, 2023. For more information about Angel Choir, please e-mail Eliz Roser (eroser@westprespdx.org).

Sunday School

During the school year, we offer Sunday School for kids. Although children are always welcome to stay with their families in the sanctuary for worship, during the school year, we invite children age five through fifth grade to join our volunteer staff for a time of learning and fellowship after the “Moments with Children” time in worship. They will be greeted in the back of the church by the volunteer staff wearing yellow aprons and will be escorted to our children’s space (Room C/D, downstairs, under the sanctuary). If you are a new family, we ask that you to come with your child at this time to meet the volunteers, see where your child is, and fill out a brief contact form. On communion Sundays, which fall on the first Sunday of each month, the children will enjoy a story and activity, then be brought back to the sanctuary after the sermon. We want to provide the opportunity for them to take communion with their family and to feel a part of the community as a whole. On all other Sundays, children will stay in the Sunday School room for the rest of the service, and caregivers can pick them up after the service. During the summertime (typically mid-June through early September), our Sunday School is on summer break. Children are also welcome to stay with their families in worship at any time.

Sunday School Classroom Change

Big news for Children’s Ministry–we have a new classroom! The Sunday School room is now located directly under the sanctuary, in Room C/D. Our new classroom has more space and brand-new carpet. To get there, take the stairs down from the narthex. Thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who helped make this happen!
