Westminster Presbyterian Church is currently seeking a Transitional Associate Pastor for Youth, Mission, and Community Engagement. The Transitional Associate Pastor for Youth, Mission, and Community Engagement is responsible for providing Christian Education and fellowship opportunities for the youth of the church. This pastor also works in the larger community in the area of Mission and Social Justice. This pastor is responsible for integrating youth into the life of the whole church. Job Description: Westminster Presbyterian Church Childcare Lead

Westminster Presbyterian Church is a diverse urban congregation serving Jesus Christ in the heart of Portland, Oregon. As a progressive community of believers, we welcome people of every age, race, sexual orientation, and gender identity to worship with us.

The Childcare Lead position coordinates and provides dependable, safe, and nurturing care to children ages 0-4 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Two providers will always be working with the children, in accordance with the Westminster Children and Youth Protection Policy. The Childcare Lead will serve as the primary childcare provider and will always work alongside one additional Childcare Provider (age 16+).

The Childcare Lead works every Sunday morning from 9:45-12:00. This includes time for prep and clean up. Additional opportunities to provide childcare are possible due to the scheduling needs of the church but are not required for the role.

Reporting Relationships: The Childcare Lead reports to the Director of Children’s Ministries. The Childcare Lead does not directly supervise Childcare Providers but will provide day-to-day oversight of their work.

Specific Responsibilities 

  1. Prepare the classroom before children arrive
    1. Arrive at 9:45 a.m. to set up
    2. Greet parents and children in the classroom on Sunday mornings
    3. Work with Childcare Provider: assign tasks and provide mentorship and direction
  2. Provide a friendly and safe environment for children ages 0-4
    1. Engage with children through reading and play
    2. Change diapers and escort children to the bathroom as needed, while following diapering/bathroom procedures
    3. Tend to needs as they arise with kindness
  3. Always ensure safety of children
    1. Follow specified check in and check out procedures
    2. Know necessary information relating to care (feeding, allergies, etc.)
    3. Always maintain safety within the classroom environment
  4. Maintain clean and safe classroom
    1. Clean up classroom at the end of each shift; sanitize toys and surfaces
    2. Request supplies and toys as needed

Dependability is essential. Tardiness and excessive absences will not be tolerated.

Qualifications

  • Experience in caring for children between the ages of 0-4
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Completion of background check
  • Must adhere to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Child Protection Policy Guidelines
  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain

Salary: $22-25/hour DOE
