Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church
Chancel Choir
This fifty voice choir sings during Sunday worship services weekly at 10:30AM and performs three major works each year
. Weekly rehearsals are Thursdays at 7:30 PM. They have two weekend retreats annually and toured Scotland in 1996 and Cuba in 2003.
In the past they sponsored choral festivals at the coast and have plans for a local festival in the future.
Westminster Concert Bells
Westminster Concert Bells, our adult bell choir, participates in worship monthly and shares its music, performing outside Westminster in various places in our community including providing pre-concert for the Oregon Symphony on occasion. A program of English Hand Bell music is presented each year in the church sanctuary.
"Ringing is Fun" Workshop
We had such a great response to our Ringing is Fun workshops last June that we decided to offer them again this year. So, for those of you who would like to learn to ring or dust up your ringing technique and play a little music on Westminster’s beautiful Whitechapel handbells, here is your chance.
The classes are again offered to anyone aged 11 and older and will be held each Monday in June from 6:30pm – 8:00pm.
Please note that the schedule is a bit different this year to give slightly more experienced ringers an opportunity to take their skills to the next level.
June 4, and June 11: These classes will be geared toward those who have little or no ringing experience or who do not read music. We will spend time working on basic techniques and then ring some simple music using color-coded notation as needed.
June 18 and June 25: These classes are for those who do read music and have had either some ringing experience (including attending last year’s workshop) or who have studied another musical instrument. We will spend less time on the basics, work on some more advanced ringing techniques and ring more music without using color-coded notation. Those attending the June 4 and June 11 classes who feel that they are ready for a bit more challenge are most welcome.
No registration needed – I will be there with music, gloves, bells and chimes – you can just show up for one, two or all four sessions. I only ask that you arrive a couple minutes early to get gloves and so we can be sure to start on time.
If you have questions, please email astevenson@orsymphony.org or call 503-287-6411.
I look forward to ringing with you!

Music from Spirit Divine
Music has historically played an important role in the spiritual life of Westminster Presbyterian Church. As we sing together, we also pray together and enable the divine Spirit to break through barriers to speak to our lives. This first recording of the 50 voice choir attempts to share some of our faith through anthems and spirtual songs. May you be as blessed in hearing as we have been in singing!
He is Risen, Alleluia!
