Jr. High Mission Trip 2005

Jr High Mission Trip - August 16 & 17, 2005
The Westminster youth group and leaders arrived with hands and hearts ready to make a difference in another family's life with Habitat volunteers and the volunteer building committee. they spent the day working on the Pickard home on the garage floor, moving the fill and rock and compacting to prepare the area for the concrete floor. The day was filled with lots of energy, laughter and good fellowsip by all and ended with the knowledge that thir efforts greatly impacted the Pikard family helping to provide a safe home for children and mom. In addition to all the hours and the work completed the youth group presented a check for $100 to Habitat to help pay for materials on the home.

The young people at Westminster Presbyterian Church near Lloyd Center in northeast Portland grow up learning the value of the work done by Habitat for Humanity International. As a covenant partner with Habitat, Westminster's youth buy parts of houses for alternative Christmas gifts each year as part of the church's mission.

Several of Westminster's middle school youth and their advisors are undertook their twelfth annual summer work party by spending this time partnering with Tillamook County Habitat for Humanity at their work site in Bay City. The group worked with TCHFH previously in August of 2003, and with the Eugene/Springfield chapter in 1999.

These young people have grown up hearing stories of build sites from older siblings and from adults who have had life-changing experiences while working for Habitat, and they look forward to being able to make a difference, too! The result that excites them the most is not only being able to see the work that has been accomplished at the end of the day, but knowing that a family will be one step closer to having a home of their own because of the work that was done. To a 13 year old (and to the rest of us who have been previously blessed from partnering with Habitat!), that's just awesome!
