Annual Events

"Soup, Sox, and Sneakers"--Soup is collected for FISH Emergency Services. New socks and new or gently used sneakers are collected and distributed to Operation Nightwatch.    (Jan/Feb)

"Christmas in July"--Food and personal care items are collected throughout the month of July for delivery to Northeast Emergency Food Program (NEFP).  This midyear food drive, begun in 1990, is aimed at supplementing the food bank during a time of year that traditionally sees a lower volume of contributions.     (July)

Bread for the World Offering of Letters--An opportunity is provided for people to write letters to their Congressional representatives in support of hunger-fighting legislation.    (Time of Year Varies)

RECURRING EVENTS

Grace Memorial Meals--Westminster Presbyterian partners with Grace Memorial Episcopal to serve meals to 60 to 100 people every Friday evening at Grace Memorial.  Westminster is responsible for the first and third Friday of each month.

Alternative Giving Options during Advent/Christmas Season

"Angel Tree"--Gifts are collected for 50 families from Albina Head Start.  In addition, each family is given a grocery gift certificate to help meet their food needs.

Habitat for Humanity House Parts--Throughout Advent, an opportunity is provided for people to make donations to Portland Habitat for Humanity in units equivalent to the cost of different house parts (e.g., a box of roofing shingles, a pack of nails, a door, etc.).
