Self-Defense Classes Offered

(Please note update of 8/21 class time.)

Westminster will be the site of two, one-time, self-defense classes being offered, one for children and one for women and older girls. The two classes will be held in the Great Hall. On Wednesday, August 21, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., a self-defense class will be offered for kids (younger than 12). Parents are encouraged to stay with their children to supervise. The class will be age-appropriate, safe, and empowering. Children will leave class with a new confidence, a strong posture, a loud, forceful voice, and a realistic yet positive sense of their place in the world. On Wednesday, August 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a self-defense class will be offered for older girls (12 and older) and women. The class will cover awareness, boundaries, voice work, and physical response. The class is open to all women, cis and trans, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women. This class is limited to 30 participants.

The cost is $20 per family per class. To register, please complete both these steps: (1) E-mail Paula at pwatt@westprespdx.org with information as to which class(es) you want to attend, how many kids/adults will be attending, and how/when you will be paying. (2) Remit payment online (www.westprespdx.org) or by check made out to Westminster. Put “self-defense class” in the check memo line or in the memo field of Westminster’s online donation page. After you have paid and sent registration information to Paula, you will be fully registered. If you have questions, contact Paula at pwatt@westprespdx.org or call her at 503-287-1289 x 112.
