Children’s Ministry Activities

To get on the e-mail list to receive updates and opportunities about all children’s activities, please e-mail Eliz Roser at eroser@westprespdx.org with your request or call the church office at 503-287-1289. (For young people sixth grade and older, check out our programming for youth.)

Meet Eliz Roser

Eliz Roser came to Westminster in 2010 and, since January 2023, she has been delighted to serve as our Director of Children’s Ministries (initially interim, now permanent). Eliz brings to the job a wealth of experience as an educator and a program manager. She works during the mornings on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, at about 15 hours per week, though she works fewer hours in the summertime. Eliz can be reached at eroser@westprespdx.org

Seeking Children’s Ministry Volunteers

Do you enjoy reading stories with children? Are you comfortable with glitter glue? Can you be silly sometimes? If so, volunteering with Children’s Ministry might be for you! The Children’s Ministry team is seeking volunteers to teach Sunday School, help with occasional childcare needs, and serve on the Children’s Ministry Committee. Time commitments range from a few hours once a month to occasional help with events. If you are interested or want to talk more about this, please contact Eliz Roser, Director of Children’s Ministries, at eroser@westprespdx.org.

Angel Choir

Westminster’s Angel Choir is a children’s choir for kids ages five and older, and they sing a few times a year in worship. For more information about Angel Choir, please e-mail Eliz Roser (eroser@westprespdx.org).

ANGEL CHOIR RETURNS FOR SPRING

Angel Choir, our children’s choir, has returned for spring. Westminster kids joined director Jennifer Holman and accompanist Tim Uecker for rehearsals recently, presenting their songs in worship on March 30. The Angel Choir will sing in worship again on May 18. It’s a wonderful way for children to experience music and participate in worship. If you have questions about Angel Choir, please contact Director of Children’s Ministries Eliz Roser at eroser@westprespdx.org.

Pray-Ground

A pray-ground is a designated place in the front of the sanctuary for children, a place where they can experience worship through art and quiet play while worship is happening. During the school year, all children up to age three are welcome to use the pray-ground with their caregiver present. (Kids in preschool through fifth grade may stay with their families in worship for the whole service or may attend Sunday School.)

Sunday School

Although children are always welcome to stay with their families in the sanctuary for worship, during the school year, we invite children age preschool through fifth grade to join our volunteer staff for Sunday School. Sunday School happens after the “Moments with Children” time in worship. After the “moments,” children may go to the back of the church where they will be greeted by volunteer staff and escorted to our children’s space (Room C/D, downstairs, under the sanctuary). If you are a new family to WPC, we ask that you to come with your child at this time to meet the volunteers, see where your child is, and fill out a brief contact form. Children stay in the Sunday School room for the rest of the service, and caregivers can pick them up after the service. On communion Sundays, which are the first Sunday of each month, children stay in worship; there is no Sunday School. During the summertime (typically mid-June through early September), our Sunday School is on summer break. For more information about children’s ministry, contact Director of Children’s Ministries Eliz Roser at eroser@westprespdx.org.
