Advent Giving Opportunities

Advent is a time of giving, and this year, we will continue two of our annual traditions: asking our congregation to support Albina Head Start and Habitat for Humanity. The Angel Tree program supports the families who are part of Albina Head Start, and during non-COVID times, we would request presents for those families. This year we’re asking for financial donations only; these will enable us to purchase Walmart gift cards for these families (at the request of Albina Head Start). Our goal is to raise $11,000 which will support 50 families. To give, you can write a check to Westminster and put “Angel Tree” in the memo line, or you can give online. To give online, click the “online giving” button on our home page, and then under the “fund” field, click the drop-down menu and scroll down to choose “Angel Tree.”

To support Habitat for Humanity, you can take part in the “Gifts That Build” program. “Gifts That Build” gives you an opportunity to purchase a “house part” in honor of a loved one. You will get a Christmas card and a Christmas ornament that you can send to your gift recipient indicating you have made a donation to Habitat in their honor. To participate, first decide on which “house part” you would like to buy (Box of Nails: $10, Paint: $25, Toilet: $50, Window: $75, Kitchen Sink: $100, Front Door: $150, Roof Shingles: $200, Furnace: $500, Lumber: $1000, Room: $5000). Next, make a financial donation in the corresponding amount to Habitat for Humanity. You can donate on their website at https://habitatportlandmetro.org/ or you can mail a check Habitat’s office directly (Habitat for Humanity Portland Region, PO Box 11527, Portland, OR 97211). Lastly, contact Jack Robinson to let him know how many cards and ornaments you need. Please include your mailing address, and he will send them to you. (Please call the church office if you need Jack’s information.)
