AN ACT OF PRAISE

*WESTMINSTER CHIMES

*INVITATION TO WORSHIP  The Rev. Lindsey Hubard-Groves
More like Christ are those who trust in the Lord,
whose confidence is in God who loves.
They are trees planted alongside the water,
with roots stretched out to the stream.
This tree does not fear when catastrophe comes;
Their leaves remain green, their fruit endures.
So come, let us place our trust in God who loves!
Let us live in wise faith together!

*HYMN #684
“Faith Begins by Letting Go”  LUX PRIMA

Faith begins by letting go, giving up what had seemed sure,
Taking risks and pressing on, though the way feels less secure:
Pilgrimage both right and odd, trusting all our life to God.

Faith endures by holding on, keeping memory’s roots alive
So that hope may bear its fruit; promise fed, our souls will thrive,
Not through merit we possess but by God’s great faithfulness.

Faith matures by reaching out, stretching minds, enlarging hearts,
Sharing struggles, living prayer, binding up the broken parts;
Till we find the common place ripe with witness to God’s grace.

*INVITATION TO CONFESSION  The Rev. Eileen Parfrey
We are wanderers yearning to be restored to God. Yet we stray, distracted by mirages of prosperity, power, and even safety. But God continues to reach out to us with mercy and love, inviting us towards embrace. Let us make our confession and receive God’s welcome.

*SILENT PRAYER

*UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Sustaining God, you would have us be deeply rooted in you, finding strength in your word and nourishment in your grace. More often, though, we can live like plastic bags, blown here and there by the winds of circumstance. Forgive our lack of permanency and our failures to hold fast to our commitments. Grow in us faith that we might be firmly planted in your promises, released from sin, and open to the life you have shown us in Jesus Christ.

*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Friends, this is the good news: God continues to refresh our lives to bring forth reimagined identity and creation.
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
The peace of Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

AN ACT OF RESPONSE

HYMN #815
“Give to the Winds Thy Fears”  FESTAL SONG

Give to the winds thy fears; hope, and be undismayed.
God hears thy sighs and counts thy tears; God shall lift up thy head.

Through waves and clouds and storms God gently clears the way.
Wait patiently; so shall this night soon end in joyous day.

Leave to God’s sovereign sway to choose and to command.
So shalt thou, wondering, own God’s way, how wise, how strong God’s hand!

Let us in life, in death, thy steadfast truth declare,
and publish with our final breath thy love and guardian care.

SHARING JOYS & CONCERNS  The Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves
(At the conclusion of spoken joys, let us pray together, “Thanks be to you, O God.
For concerns, let us make them our own by praying, “Lord, hear our prayer.”)

PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*HYMN #192
“Lord, the Light of your Love Is Shining”  SHINE, JESUS, SHINE

Lord, the light of your love is shining,
In the midst of the darkness, shining;
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us;
Set us free by the truth you now bring us.
Shine on me; shine on me.
Shine, Jesus shine; fill this land with the Father’s glory.
Blaze, Spirit blaze; set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow; flood the nations with grace and mercy.
Send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light.

Lord, I come to your awesome presence,
from the shadows into your radiance;
by the blood I may enter your brightness.
Search me; try me; consume all my darkness.

As we gaze on your kingly brightness,
so our faces display your likeness;
ever changing from glory to glory,
mirrored here our lives tell your story.
