INTROIT
“Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord” Mendelssohn

*WESTMINSTER CHIMES

*INVITATION TO WORSHIP The Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves
The morning stars profess God’s glory:
the waking birds harmonize a refrain of grace.
The sun warms us with God’s hope,
the night sky whispers peace to our sleepy souls:
creation’s voice echoes continually in our hearts,
reminding us of God’s steadfast love.
Our wisdom is shattered by God’s absurd love;
God’s vulnerability strengthens our feeble faith:
God’s words place joy in our hearts;
we follow them to peace and hope.

*INVITATION TO CONFESSION The Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves
We can become so burned out by our hectic days that we lose sight of the One who gives us life. We can become so impatient waiting for God to astound us with wonders, when we have the simple pleasure of each day. In these quiet moments, away from all those things which distract us, let us bring our brokenness to the One who listens to our hearts and heals our souls. Let us pray, first in silence.

*SILENT PRAYER

*UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Living God, from the beginning you have been teaching us what goodness is and how human beings should live together: with integrity, justice, and each one a refuge for the others. Forgive our hard-heartedness, our lack of imagination, our inability to read the value of each person and to bring out the best in everyone we meet.

Keep our hope alive, sustain our love for all humanity, until conflict is stifled and we stand together praising Jesus with all our siblings in Christ. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Forgiven of our sins, filled with hope, living in relationship with God and one another– we are a new people.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
The peace of Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

THE INVITATION TO THE TABLE The Rev. Beth Neel

GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING The Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is our joy to thank you and praise you, O God; for once we were no people, but you have made us your people. Once we have not received mercy, but now we have received mercy. You made us all, men and women, architects and teachers, parents, children, the flawed and the beloved. You made us in love and clothed us with grace, and we give you thanks. And so in praise and thanksgiving we join our voices to those of the heavenly host who sing to your glory, saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

You are blessed, O God, as is Jesus our Christ, who came to us to teach us and heal us, to know what it is to be human, to show us the love of the divine. With grace and courage he gave us life eternal, that we might become the new community called together by you. As a community we pray for your Holy Spirit to weave among us, and this bread and cup, to change them from ordinary things to holy vessels of forgiveness and grace. And as we partake, may we too be changed, filled with holy food so that we may go out and do holy things. For so much, we offer grateful hearts, and following the words of Jesus, we say together the prayer that he taught:

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION
On the night before the Lord Jesus died, he took bread, and after giving thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat. This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way he took the cup, saying: This cup is the new covenant sealed with my life, given for you for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.

RECEIVING THE BREAD AND THE CUP
(Today, the congregation is invited to come forward to receive communion. Someone will hand you a piece of bread, which you will eat. You may then move to the next person, who will hand you a cup of juice, which you will drink. As you return to your pew, you may put your cup in the basket. For those unable to come forward, a pastor will bring you the elements.)

COMMUNION MUSIC
“Parce Domine” Nowowiejski
Lord, spare your people, do not be angry at us forever.
Have mercy on us, O God, according to your great mercy.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION The Rev. Beth Neel
Gracious God, we give you thanks for this holy meal and the nourishment it provides our souls. We now commit to go out into your world, to heal, to help, to hope and to forgive. Amen.
