AN ACT OF PRAISE

*WESTMINSTER CHIMES

*INVITATION TO WORSHIP  Rev. Eileen Parfrey
We gather to be in your glory.
“Do you know what you ask,” He says to us.
We gather to sit beside you in your presence.
“Are you able to drink the cup I drink?”
We gather together to draw nearer to you, Jesus.
“To become great, you serve one another.”
Let us worship together, giving of ourselves, in gentleness, modeling community, and drawing near to Christ.

*HYMN #630
“Fairest Lord Jesus”  CRUSADERS’ HYMN

Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature, O thou of God to earth come down,
Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor, thou, my soul’s glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands, robed in the blooming garb of spring.
Jesus is fairer; Jesus is purer, who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight, and all the twinkling, starry host.
Jesus shines brighter; Jesus shines purer, than all of the angels heaven can boast.

Beautiful Savior, Ruler of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and forevermore be thine!

*INVITATION TO CONFESSION  Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves
Friends, we know that even the ones closest to Jesus were able to lose sight of who He is. We find that his disciples often failed to see the kin-dom for what it is. Our call to confession is not one of shame and guilt, but one of freedom and love. So let us confess together, first in silent prayer.

*SILENT PRAYER

*UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God, there is a lot we want. And we know that we may not always know what we ask. We strive to be better than others, putting ourselves, our family, our people, first. So, we unknowingly harm our neighbors, distancing ourselves from the kin-dom when we seek to draw closer. We forget where your concern lies. We confess that we have contributed to the realities that make it difficult for others to thrive.
We trust that there is an unknowable depth of all that you want for us, O God. May we learn to want what you want. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Friends, always hear the good news: the kin-dom of God, where our needs and wants are met, has been prepared. Through Jesus, that invitation to enter the kin-dom is always open.
Thanks be to God.

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE
The peace of Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

AN ACT OF RESPONSE

*HYMN #714
“God of the Fertile Fields”  ITALIAN HYMN

God of the fertile fields, shaper of earth that yields our daily bread:
Forth from your bounteous hand come gifts your love has planned, that all in every land be clothed and fed.

We would be stewards true, holding in trust from you all that you give;
Help us in love to share, teach us like you to care for people everywhere, that all may live.

As grows the hidden seed to fruit that serves our need, so your reign grows.
Let all our toil be used, no gift of yours abused, no humble task refused your love bestows.

God of the countryside, dear to the Christ who died to make us one:
We pledge our lives anew in faithful love to you. Guide all we say and do. Your will be done.

SHARING JOYS & CONCERNS  Rev. Eileen Parfrey
(At the conclusion of spoken joys, let us pray together, “Thanks be to you, O God.
For concerns, let us make them our own by praying, “Lord, hear our prayer.”)

PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*HYMN #269
“Lean On, O King Eternal!”  LANCASHIRE

Lead on, O King Eternal! The day of march has come;
Hence-forth in fields of conquest your tents shall be our home.
Through days of preparation your grace has made us strong,
And now, O King eternal, we lift our battle song.

Lead on, O King eternal, till sin’s fierce war shall cease,
And holiness shall whisper the sweet amen of peace;
For not with swords’ loud clashing, nor roll of stirring drums;
With deeds of love and mercy the heavenly kingdom comes.

Lead on, O King eternal: we follow, not with fears,
For gladness breaks like morning where’er your face appears;
Your cross is lifted o’er us; we journey in its light.
The crown awaits the conquest; lead on, O God of might!
