The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper

The Invitation to the Table                                                                    Rev. Junha Kim

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving                                      Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves            The Lord be with you.

      And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

      We lift them up unto the Lord.

Let us give thanks to our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It makes sense to be grateful, God. You fashioned the sun and the clouds, the music of the seas and winds, the rhythm of our seasons, the harmony of relationship. You filled the oceans and land with life – with seasons to cry and seasons to laugh, seasons to grow and seasons to be, seasons to learn and seasons to teach. And from the very beginning, we learn of life, “it is not good to be alone.”

And so, we fellowship, praise, worship, and pray together, accompanying our voices with Eileen Hufana, Gail Munnecke, Doris Fong, and all the saints, singing…

Blessed are you, God, the Parent, who considers each life as their greatest treasure. Blessed are you, Jesus Christ, the Anointed, who called each of us to reconsider the gift of life and taught us how to preserve it. And blessed are you, Holy Spirit, who placed within us the heart to see, understand, and then transform the “ordinary” into the sacred and holy. For all these things, we give you thanks by praying together the prayer that Jesus taught….

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen

Words of Institution

On the night before the Lord Jesus died, he took bread, and after giving thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat. This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way he took the cup, saying: This cup is the new covenant sealed with my life, shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.

Receiving the Bread and the Cup

(Today, the congregation is invited to come forward to receive communion. Someone will hand you a piece of bread, which you will eat. You may then move to the next person, who will hand you a cup of juice, which you will drink. As you return to your pew, you may put your cup in the basket.. For those unable to come forward, a pastor will bring you the elements.)

Communion Anthem                     “House of God, Forever”                           Jon Foreman

God is my shepherd,

I won’t be wanting, I won’t be wanting

She lets me rest

By fields of green, with quiet streams

Though we walk through the valley of death and dying

We will not fear

Cause you are with me, you’re always with me

Your shepherd’s staff comforts me

You are my feast in the presence of enemies

Surely goodness will follow me, follow me

In the house of God forever

Prayer After Communion                                                                       Rev. Junha Kim

Life-giving God, we are empowered by the gifts of Your table, for it is your love that abounds in us. We are unencumbered by the unloading of fears that you remind us are not Yours. We are emboldened by turning our hearts towards You and uncovering our capacity for courage and resilience. May we continue to be able to see, recognize, advocate for, learn from, and protect those who have come to give life and create, not steal and destroy. For you created love, goodness, and life. Amen.

*Hymn #649                                     “Amazing Grace”                                   AMAZING GRACE

Acapella

Amazing grace (how sweet the sound)
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come:
’tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be
as long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease:
I shall possess, within the veil,
a life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
the sun forbear to shine;
but God, who called me here below,
will be forever mine.
