*Invitation to Worship                                                                            Rev. Junha Kim

Upon Mount Horeb, Elijah heard the voice of God, not in the wind or in the shaking of the earth, but in the sound of silence.

Holy God, quiet our minds and our hearts. Rid us of distraction and needless anxiety. May we hear you and know you.

Let us listen for God together.

*Hymn #264                                “At the Name of Jesus”                               king’s weston

At the name of Jesus

Every knee shall bow,

Every tongue confess him

King of glory now;

‘Tis the Father’s pleasure

We should call him Lord,

Who from the beginning

Was the mighty Word.

Humbled for a season

To receive a name

From the lips of sinners,

Unto whom he came.

Faithfully he bore it,

Spotless to the last,

Brought it back victorious

When from death he passed.

Bore it up triumphant,

with its human light,

through all ranks of creatures,

to the central height,

to the throne of Godhead,

to the Father’s breast,

filled it with the glory of that perfect rest.

Christians, this Lord Jesus

Shall return again

With his Father’s glory,

over the earth to reign,

For all wreaths of empire

Meet upon his brow,

And our hearts confess him

King of glory now.

*Invitation to Confession                                                                     Rev. Gregg Neel

We return to God through confession—when we are honest with God about how we have gone astray, how we have succumbed to fear, or how we have lost faith, we come to better understand God’s call for each of us. Let us return to God through confession, first in silent prayer.

*Silent Prayer

*Unison Prayer of Confession

God, our refuge, you hear our cries for mercy. You know our exhaustion, our cynicism, our sense of defeat. We know You lift the lowly and offer hope to the hopeless. Still, we are quick to lose perspective, quick to critique and judge. We confess the ways we are tempted to give in to despair, rather than to move towards righteousness. We pray for the eternal guidance that leads us to You.

*Assurance of Forgiveness

Friends, do not fear, for God redeems each of us and calls each of us by name.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we have been called to the fullness of life. Amen.

*The Passing of the Peace

The peace of Christ be with you all.

            And also with you.

An Act of Proclamation

The Scripture Reading             Matthew 14: 22-33                    Rev. Junha Kim

Jesus Walks on the Water

Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning he came walking towards them on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, ‘It is a ghost!’ And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, ‘Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.’

Peter answered him, ‘Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.’ He said, ‘Come.’ So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came towards Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, ‘You of little faith, why did you doubt?’ When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshipped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God.’

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

An Act of Response

*Hymn #462                               “I Love to Tell the Story”                                          hankey

I love to tell the story
of unseen things above,
of Jesus and His glory,
of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story
because I know it’s true.
it satisfies my longings
as nothing else can do.

I love to tell the story!
‘Twill be my theme in glory
to tell the old, old story
of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story;
’tis pleasant to repeat
what seems, each time I tell it
more wonderfully sweet!
I love to tell the story;
for some have never heard
the message of salvation
from God’s own holy Word.

I love to tell the story!
‘Twill be my theme in glory
to tell the old, old story
of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story,
for those who know it best
seem hungering and thirsting
to hear it like the rest.
And when in scenes of glory
I sing the new, new song,
’twill be the old, old story
that I have loved so long.

I love to tell the story!
‘Twill be my theme in glory
to tell the old, old story
of Jesus and His love.

Sharing Joys & Concerns                                                                     Rev. Gregg Neel

(At the conclusion of spoken joys, let us pray together, “Thanks be to you, O God.”

For concerns, let us make them our own by praying, “Lord, hear our prayer.”)

Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer

      Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

      Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

      Give us this day our daily bread;

      and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

      and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

      For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*Hymn #463                               “How Firm a Foundation”                                 foundation

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
is laid for your faith in God’s excellent Word!
What more can be said than to you God hath said,
to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

“Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
for I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

“When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
the rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
for I will be near thee, thy troubles to bless,
and sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

“When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
my grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
the flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

“The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no, never, no, never forsake.”
