Prelude “Carillon de Westminster, Suite 3, No. 6, Opus 54” Louis Vierne
Greetings and Announcements Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves
This is the day the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
An Act of Praise
Introit “I Love You, Lord” Laurie Klein
*Westminster Chimes
*Invitation to Worship Rev. Junha Kim
It’s not all up to us.
If it were, there’d be no need for Spirit, Mystery, Love, God, Community.
If it were, there’d be no need for groaning and praying, prophesying and speaking.
We need Spirit now more than ever,
especially in these middle stage, sandwich generation, ceasefire calling, mercy crying, patriarchy crumbling, woman rising times.
Hear the Good News, beloveds: It’s not all up to us.
And, in fact, it never has been. Perhaps for today, we can let Spirit take the lead.
Perhaps for today, we can know Spirit has always been and always will be.
*Hymn #305 “Come Sing, O Church, in Joy!” darwall’s 148th
Come sing, O church, in joy! Come join, O church, in song!
For Christ the Lord has led us through the ages long!
In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!
Long years have come and gone, and still god reigns supreme,
empowering us to catch the vision, dream the dream!
In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!
Let courage be our friend; let wisdom be our guide,
as we in mission magnify the Crucified!
In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!
Come sing, O church, in joy! Come join, O church in song!
For Christ the Lord has triumphed over the ages long!
In bold accord, come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!
*Invitation to Confession Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves
Because we are alive to the Spirit, let us align ourselves with Spirit together. Knowing our connection, we make this confession, first in silence.
*Silent Prayer
*Unison Prayer of Confession
The lengths people will go to maintain power over others, is, at best, astonishing, and at worst, devastating. Sin is rarely bad words, but it is what happens when we have the power to make things more just, more merciful, more livable for others, and choose not to. To live in right relationship with self, God, neighbor, and world is to participate in the ongoing work of making life more whole. Not for a select few, but for all.
*Assurance of Forgiveness
Beloveds you are, and may we also be still enough to know that something new, even here, even now, is being born. Amen.
*The Passing of the Peace
The peace of Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

Anthem “How Can I Keep from Singing?” Quaker hymn
arr. Gwyneth Walker
My life flows on in endless song above earth’s lamentation.
I hear the real though distant song that hails a new creation.
Through all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing.
It sounds an echo in my soul, how can I keep from singing?
What though the tempest loudly roars, I hear the truth, it’s living!
What though the darkness round me close, songs in the night it’s giving!
No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that rock I’m clinging.
Since I believe that love abides, how can I keep from singing?
When tyrants tremble when they hear the bells of freedom ringing,
When friends rejoice both far and near, how can I keep from singing?
In prison cell, in dungeon dark, our thoughts to them are winging.
When friends hold courage in their heart, how can I keep from singing?
No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that rock I’m clinging.
Since I believe that love abides, how can I keep from singing?
The Scripture Reading
Numbers 11: 25-29
Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do so again.
Two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp. And a young man ran and told Moses, ‘Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.’ And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, ‘My lord Moses, stop them!’ But Moses said to him, ‘Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit on them!’
1 Corinthians 12:1-7
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says ‘Let Jesus be cursed!’ and no one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit.
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Sermon “Connection” Rev. Lindsey Hubbard-Groves
A Moment for Silent Reflection
An Act of Response
*Hymn #286 “Breathe on Me, Breath of God” trentham
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
fill me with life anew,
that I may love the way you love,
and do what you would do.
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
until my heart is pure,
until my will is one with yours,
to do and to endure.
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
so shall I never die,
but live with you the perfect life
for all eternity.
Sharing Joys & Concerns Rev. Junha Kim
(At the conclusion of spoken joys, let us pray together, “Thanks be to you, O God.”
For concerns, let us make them our own by praying, “Lord, hear our prayer.”)
Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offertory Anthem “I’m Gonna Sing ’til the Spirit Moves in My Heart” Moses Hogan
Ethan Reviere and Peter Haub, solos
I’m gonna sing ’til the spirit moves in my heart, I’m gonna sing ’til Jesus comes.
It was grace that brought me, it was grace that taught me,
it was grace that kept me, and it’s grace that will lead me home.
I’m gonna pray ’til the spirit moves in my heart, I’m gonna pray ’til Jesus comes.
Can’t you feel the spirit movin’?
I’m gonna shout ’til the spirit moves in my heart, I’m gonna shout ’til Jesus comes.
I’m gonna sing ’til Jesus comes.
*Doxology – Hymn #606
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
-OR-
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heavenly host;
Creator, Christ, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*Hymn #306 “Blest Be the Tie that Binds” dennis
Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above.
Before our Father’s throne
we pour our ardent prayers;
our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
our comforts and our cares.
We share our mutual woes,
our mutual burdens bear,
and often for each other flows
the sympathizing tear.
When we are called to part,
it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again.
This glorious hope revives
our courage by the way;
while each in expectation lives
and waits to see the day.
From sorrow, toil, and pain,
and sin, we shall be free;
and perfect love and friendship reign
through all eternity.
